A Make-Over May be in Store For Sioux City Hotel

(SIOUX CITY, IA) The Sioux City Hotel, perhaps best known as the old Hilton Hotel, could be getting a make-over in the near future and there's a possibility the city might chip in.

Lenders have foreclosed on the owners of the Sioux City Hotel. That means the hotel is on the market again and a realtor is trying to find a new buyer.

The City says several bidders have looked at property but because the hotel was built in the 70's it needs major renovations.

"The physical plan needs to change a lot, the rooms are somewhat outdated, the mechanical systems are more than outdated. I would suspect there's probably some rooms there that were built back in '72 someone told me so they built it as a traditional hotel back then they weren't suites and those sorts of things," said Bob Scott, Mayor of Sioux City.

He says depending on who buys the hotel the city might be willing to enter into a deal with the new owners to help with the renovations.

He believes that could help the city attract more conventions and events to the Sioux City Convention center.
