Nearly 300 Sioux City kids took a unique ride today.
The Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad hosted the Boys Club of Sioux City and Girls Inc. for a ride along the rails.
The kids got lunch and snacks on their 2 hour round trip on a variety of restored passenger cars
"We were together for 2 hours, so we got to spend some more time with the kids, talking about things, as well as looking at the beautiful scenery along the way, and it's a once in a lifetime experience for a lot of the kids, a lot of kids have never been on a train before," said Pat Amundson of the Boys Club.
The train travels the country every summer, offering the experience to employees and their families, as well as special young guests.
"These are really special, vintage passenger cars, and it's a great opportunity for the boys and girls to get a special ride, have a nice, fun afternoon, and also just understand that we support them and their community," said BNSF's Amy McBeth.
The railroad also presented the Boys Club with a check for $10,000, to support the work they do in Siouxland.
