City Manager Paul Eckert Resigns

Sioux City City Manager Paul Eckert has resigned to take a job in California.

Eckert resigned late Tuesday afternoon to take a similar job in Mount Shasta, California. His last day will be August 19th and his first day in Mount Shasta is August 26th.

Eckert and the city were recently sued by a former City worker who claimed Eckert sexually harassed her and retaliated against her when she complained.

Eckert came to Sioux City in 1997, and was promoted to city manager in 2002. He currently makes more than $140,000 a year.

He will move to the northern California City of Mount Shasta which has a population of a little more than 3,000.

Eckert worked in four different California cities before moving to Sioux City.

Mayor Bob Scott told Siouxland News he believes Eckert's departure will have no bearing on the lawsuit, which the city will vigorously fight.
