Tonight the Crittenton Center hosted the first of its two-night fundraiser called "Design and Dine."
For its third annual fundraiser, the Crittenton Center had to do something out of the ordinary; so why not bring the world right here to our own backyards.
"The designers are the ones that have made this event so festive; they have really gone over the top with their decorating. They've really gotten into the design and we're really looking towards a fun night," said Design & Dine Co-Chair Sue Strohbeen.
Local decorators and businesses created 13 intricate escapes to places in South America, Africa, and Europe. Aside from the mini-vacation experience, the event is also holding a silent auction to raise money and awareness for Siouxland families.
For more than a 100 years the Center has been a refuge for women across Siouxland and as it evolves, organizers want the community to embrace its mission.
The organization remains committed to making young mothers and families independent.
At the very beginning of a woman's pregnancy, the Center is there to help.
"And so they follow them through pre natal, deliver, pediatric care for their babies and family care because so often those young moms don't have the skills to appropriately parent their children," said Design & Dine Co-Chair Vicki Wollman.
That's why this agency provides a spectrum of services: daycare centers at West High School, camps for children from low-income families, not for profit adoption counseling, and much more.
Organizers hope the community will realize the value of the Center's services as they enjoy the fun in this fundraising.
Tickets for Friday night's event are still on sale for $100.
The event starts at 6 P.M. and will include a social hour, sit down dinner, live auction, and Peoples' Choice Award ceremony for the best voted decorated table.
