SHELDON, IA — Sheldon, Iowa isn't thought of as a booming industrial town. But business has been good, and it's getting better for one unique manufacturer that's planning a one-and-a-half million dollar expansion. The sounds of machinery are common to many factories but this isn't your every day factory. Maintainer corporation of Iowa is located in the heart of Sheldon, IA. "We bring in flat iron and formed iron on one end of the factory and cut it and bend it and mold it into compartments that we mount on a frame that we build. Then they're mounted on a truck chassy," said Dennis Michels, President of Maintainer Corporation of Iowa. "Maintainer Corporation of Iowa has been a mainstay of Sheldon since 1976, and their trucks are used all over the country," said Joe Bisiccia of Siouxland News. It's likely you've seen one of these trucks before, their clients include BNSF Railway Company. And it's a very complicated process to put one of these custom made trucks together. "They're intricate made pieces of equipment, we start with a design. One of our cups of tea is the ability to customize the product," said Michels. Maintainer employs 130 people currently, which is a big boost to the city. Michels said although the Maintainer trucks cost more than other service trucks you're getting a much more reliable product.
