Estherville Police Identify Man Found Dead in Alley

ESTHERVILLE, IA — The Estherville Police Department has released the identity of the body found on Friday, August 22nd in the alley south of the business district in the 500 block of Central Ave. The man is identified as 54 year old Thomas Pettit, formerly of Graettinger. There appears to be no foul play in the death of Mr. Pettit. Results of an autopsy will be available in a few weeks. Previous Story: Estherville Police are investigating an unattended death reported on Friday, August 22nd. A female was driving through the alley behind the Central Ave business district when she located a deceased male in the alley. Responding officers immediately began an investigation into the death of the man. No foul play is suspected. The man's body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy. The man's name is not being released pending notification of family members. The police department was assisted by the Emmet County Medical Examiner's Office.
