Carrie Mach Memorial Golf Outing Sees Its 13th Successful Year

Golfers got a chance to take to the links today, and help a great cause at the same time.

Whispering Creek Golf Course in Sioux City was the site for the 13th annual Carrie Mach Memorial Golf Outing.

The event honors Mach, who lost her battle with cancer at the age of 17. During her fight, Carrie's parents saw the value of a high level of cancer-care, and vowed to continue improving that care here in Siouxland.

"You know, we're very honored that there's so many people that remember her and give to this event. We've raised $42,600 so that's a super income. A lot of it is from consultants, and contractors, and vendors who supply for the city," said Rich Mach, Carrie's father. "They come into town and they give back, not only in the golfing, but they stay in hotels and go out to restaurants and bars, so they generate additional income into the community besides playing the event and donating to a good charity."

To date, the outing has raised nearly more than 400 thousand dollars for local cancer care.
