Asurvivor of the Nazi Holocaust will be among the people attending agroundbreaking of a new memorial in Des Moines on Tuesday.
Mark Finkelstein,a spokesman for the Jewish Federation of Greater Des Moines, toldthe Des Moines Register "It's going to be erected in memory of the victimsof the Holocaust in gratitude to the liberators, the Iowans who served in thearmed forces, and in honor of the survivors who came to Iowa with their families."
Also speaking theground breaking is Fred Lorber, a holocaust survivor who saw the cruelty of theNazis in his home country of Austria.He was a teenager when the Nazis invaded. After his family escaped to America he wasdrafted into the U.S. Army.
The Iowa memorialwill include quotes from survivors who settled down in Iowa.
