Iowa DOT Proposes New Rules for Speed Cams
SIOUX CITY, IA —
The Iowa Department of Transportation has proposed some new rules for governing where and how speeding and red light traffic cameras are used on Iowa interstates and highways.
The rules would require cities and counties follow a specific process to document critical, traffic safety issues.
They also say automatic traffic enforcement systems should be used only as a last resort after other safety measures have been exhausted.
The proposal follows a recent clash between Sioux City and the state over the placement of cameras near an interstate construction zone.
