July Tax Increase Will Add to Nebraskan's Fuel Bills
Starting in July, drivers will have to pay a little bit more to fill up in Nebraska. The state's fuel tax will increase by 1.7 cents per gallon for the second half of the year.
The total state tax will go to 26.3 cents per gallon on July 1st. That's up from the current 24.6 cents per gallon. The current tax is the lowest it has been since 2008.
State officials can change the variable portion of that tax every six months, based on the amount needed to fund approved highway projects. The increase is expected to bring in more than $20 million.
