One more local business is helping out in the effort to make Sioux City a healthier place to live.
Mercy Medical Center is now the ninth employer in Siouxland to be a designated Blue Zones worksite.
The hospital had to start a few new well-being policies first, though, like forming an advisory committee, and initiate incentive programs, like fitness boot-camps.
You might think of the hospital as a place where patients are taken care of, but this is a great chance for caregivers to stay healthy as well.
"A lot of time in healthcare we are all about our patients. Where we need to make sure that our caregivers are taking care of themselves as well. So we need to look at our caregivers and make sure that they are healthy when they're trying to get their patients healthy as well," said Mercy Medical Center Wellness Specialist Holly Bartsch.
It took about five months for Mercy Medical Center to make all of those changes.
