Nebraska Courthouse Seeks Dog

The Sarpy County Courthouse is looking to have a dog in the courtroom as a reassuring influence.

The Omaha World-Herald reports Canine Companions for Independence in Nebraska has trained many dogs, but this will be the first dog for a courthouse. The dog will help victims and witness remain calm during court proceedings.

Molly, a 5 year old Labrador-golden retriever mix, visited the courthouse Monday. Molly's handlers said she will respond to 50 or more commands, like shake or fetch. Representatives from the Courthouse Dogs Foundation showed video of other courthouse dogs, including one clip in which a 5-year-old child told a dog about her sexual assault.
