But it's a lot of work for some other people.
From the folks who get the parties ready to the people who help you get home safely, New Year's Eve is an important date.
Don't expect the party in Time Square to out trump this year's celebrations around Siouxland.Places like the Marina Inn are pulling out all the stops to create a party to remember. "There's an awesome dinner buffet: prime rib, crab legs, you name it. Champagne toast at midnight. It's going to be awesome," said Kate Nelson, a sales manager with the Marina Inn Hotel & Conference Center. The night will also include entertainment by Midwest Dueling Pianos, playing everything from rock to classic country hits. Once you've rung in the New Year on the dance floor and toasted to health and happiness, officials are reminding you to be safe and never drink and drive. And you won't have to.
Local attorney Ed Kean has teamed up with Siouxland Taxi and Double A Action Taxi to provide free trips to anyone who calls in looking for a safe ride.
The lift must be back to your home and within 15 miles of downtown, but it's all free. "We try to get everybody down since fourth street is the most popular. We try to get all the cabs down on fourth street about one thirty, quarter to two for last call so that if they come out of the bar there's a cab sitting there," said Siouxland Taxi Dispatcher Linda Florke. Estimated wait time is about an hour, no matter where you're headed.
But despite the wait, officials hope you ring in the year safely.
Tickets and rooms are still available for tonight's party at the Marina Center. For more information you can call 402-494-4000.
To get a ride, just say "Safe Ride" or "Ed Kean."
