(SIOUX CITY, IA) Iowa Congressman Steve King was in Sioux City today where he gave medals that had been overdue for more than 40 years to Vietnam Veteran Phillip Gregg. The ceremony was very emotional. Gregg was joined by his family and friends who cheered him on as he accepted the medals.
Gregg says this moment means the world to him and now he can finally share his military experience with his children.
I appreciate it a lot, that senator King came and got them so I can hand them down to my children. That's about it," says Gregg.
Representative King says its an honor handing medals over to a veteran.
"I watch them and I want to hear them tell their stories. But I count it as a real privilege of this job. I remember when our troops were coming home from Vietnam and to anything but a welcome often. The culture in the county was different," says Rep. Steve King. "Today we see [differently] cause we've been attacked we saw the tragedy of September 11th, 2001, we watched the twin towers collapse on television that changed all of our lives on this country and it changed our perspective."
