Tax Free Holiday Sends Shoppers To Sioux City
SIOUX CITY, IA —
If you're doing some back to school shopping and looking for great deals, you're in luck.
This weekend in Iowa you won't have to pay tax on certain types of clothing.
Thousands of shoppers across Iowa head to stores for the annual tax free shopping weekend.
"We just came to do the shopping for the tax free," said Megan Beed of West Point, NE.
And it's not just Iowans searching for deals.
Friday a lot of folks from Nebraska were making their way into Sioux City to snag up some deals, even if the tax free holiday was news to them.
"I didn't know about it until yesterday," said Krystal Preister of Norfolk, NE.
A lot of families do a majority of their back to school shopping on the first Friday and Saturday in August each year, the tax free holiday.
"I usually do hit up this tax free weekend," said Beed. "When you have three kids it's significant enough to make the trip."
"Just that little additional money that you spend, you don't really think about until you get to the register," said Preister.
If you are planning on doing some tax free shopping, it only applies to stores in Iowa, it runs through Saturday, not Sunday and the tax free status only applies to stuff like shirts and jeans, not jewelry.
