Sioux City Man Arrested After Two-Month-Old Son Dies
SIOUX CITY, IA — One child is dead... and two others have been taken away from a Sioux City man who's accused of neglect.26 year old Michael Williams is charged with a class C felony after police say he refused to seek medical attention for one of his three children.... two month old Leonard Williams.Michael D. Williams brought his two-month old son to the emergency room on Tuesday, but it was too late. Shortly after the child's arrival at UnityPoint St. Luke's, police were called to the hospital to investigate the death of a two-month old infant.After that, police went to the Hillside Apartments on West 4th Street, where Williams allegedly left his child unattended for hours at a time. "A search warrant was served at their residence at 2800 West 4th Street, and conditions inside the house were found to be less than sanitary," said Sioux City Police Lt. Mark Kirkpatrick.A police affidavit says Williams is charged the neglect of a dependent person, and that Williams told police he's addicted to adderall, marijuana and meth.Police say Williams told them he didn't call an ambulance because he had a warrant out for his arrest. Lt. Kirkpatrick said Williams had warrants outstanding for a probation violation and two charges of contempt of court.Authorities also say they found the apartment littered with feces and covered in soiled diapers."There were two other children in the household, they've been removed by the Dept. of Human Services," said Kirkpatrick.This isn't the first time Williams has been in trouble with the law. He has prior arrests for domestic assault and failing to show up in court.Williams' preliminary hearing is set for May 9th. He faces up to ten years in prison if convicted. The infant's official cause of death has not been released, as the investigation is still ongoing.
