Early retirement plans for the Sioux City School District could soon see some changes.
The school board is considering a new program for employees aged 61 and older who've worked a minimum of 15 years.
Board members hope to provide a more effective plan than the previous program, which included a larger pool of applicants from 55 and older. The district hopes the change will save taxpayer's money.
The new plan would not include insurance coverage for participants, and newly-hired teachers would also be paid a starting salary of nearly $25,000 less than a retiring teacher.
If approved, about 100 employees would qualify for the program and could apply starting July 1st.
