A Sioux City teacher got the surprise of his career Thursday morning. Dann Speichinger thought it was business as usual when he was called to a meeting by Superintendent Paul Gausman, but it was all for him! After 25 years of service, he was awarded as the district's Teacher of the Year.
"I was completely surprised no question. I had no idea this was happening at all. It ah it's incredible. Like I said I've really enjoyed teaching all these years and I have worked with some wonderful, wonderful over the course of the time and um. I never, never would have dreamed this would ever happen,"said Speichinger.
Speichinger teaches english as a second language. His students have come from all over the world. He even helps the student's families gain American citizenship.
