Siouxland Kids Compete in Hy-Vee's IronKids Triathlon

A triathlon combines endurance, determination and strength for many of its participants, usually professional athletes, but tomorrow Siouxland kids will be stepping up to the challenge.

Parents and kids headed out to South Sioux City's YMCA to get registered for Saturday's IronKids triathlon sponsored by Hy-Vee.

The triathlon is a Midwest national series of twenty-one races for children anywhere from ages five to fifteen.

It helps introduce kids to the three sports: swimming, running, and biking. But the course is no easy task.

"If you can find a way to swim the distance that we've challenged you with, bike, and run and put those three things together on a Saturday morning you're a champion and you come to the Iron Kids finish line," said IronKids Director Michael Zimmerman.

The event hopes to inspire kids to live healthy and active lives through sports.

The National IronKids Championship will take place in Des Moines in two weeks, where the best of the best athletes will compete.
