New to Nursing: Iowa Pathways Students Graduate In Sioux City

Students like Carolina De Santiago were graduating at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City Tuesday morning.

She was one of the 17 students who completed the Pathways to Health Care Careers Certified Nursing Assistant program.

Before now, Carolina was studying business, but she realized it just wasn't for her.

"This course, this CNA thing, I think it opened doors for me," said De Santiago.

The Pathways program helps immigrants and refugees get into the healthcare industry.

"As we think about the demographics in our Siouxland Community changing, we also want to be able to understand and learn from them and become more culturally and linguistically competent and be aware of the needs of those that live in the community," said Linda Krei with Mercy Medical Center.

The program's funded by a federal grant and there are quite a few different fields of study.
