A speeding driver may be the cause of an overturned tanker truck that was carrying fertilizer. Officials say right before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon the driver of a MaXYield Cooperative semi was going Eastbound on 260th St. when he tried to make a quick turn onto an I-29 ramp near Salix.
That's when the tanker tipped over spilling fertilizer.
The driver wasn't injured.
A hazmat team was called in and other state agencies were notified as well. "DNR has been contacted. DOT has been contacted. What spilled has been contained and there wasn't a lot of spillage. It's fertilizer that farmers use so we should be good. It's not gotten into any waterway so it's not a problem or concern of ours at this time," said Woodbury County Sergeant Doug Boetger. The driver was cited for failure to maintain control.
Siouxland News was unable to reach the North Central Iowa company that operated the truck.
