(SIOUX CITY, IA) It's an age-old question that children have been asking for years, Is Santa Clause real?
Well, we were wondering the same thing, until we found Santa Claus right here in Sioux City.
"It's really exciting, I never knew I would meet the real Santa Claus," says Addysen kellen, a student at Bryant Elementary School.
"He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life it's highest beauty and joy. Alas, how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus?" (The New York Sun)
Quoted from an editorial in the New York Sun, written many years ago after a little girl named Virginia asked whether Santa Claus was real. Well, according to the man in the big red suit...
"There is a Santa Claus boys and girls, there is a Santa Claus," says one of Santa Claus's helpers.
But, because Santa is a busy man, he has helpers that travel the world checking on all the children.
"When I was a little kid, I used to always like to see Santa Clause myself and I always said, when Santa needed a helper, I would hope that I would be able to be one, and here I am. I've been a Santa helper for a long, long time," he says.
31 years, and he says it never gets old.
"Its fun this time of year and its even more fun when there is no snow... it's a lot easier to get around," says Santa.
Which made his trip to Bryant Elementary school that much better. And, although Santa's slay has remained the same all these years, the North Pole is becoming high tech, so keeping track of kids is much easier.
"With the computer and the data base, you can get on there and you can find their address right away, and it's really a lot easier, and of course there are more boys and girls that are requesting things too," he says.
Lots of things, like...
"A hamster and a hamster wheel," says Nikko, a student at Bryant Elementary school.
"It's like a little small toy, and it's a baby horse, and it eats carrots," says Kellen.
"Sometimes, they all want a lot more than maybe they're going to be able to get, you know, cause I can't fit everything in the slay," says Santa.
But Santa says, he'll try his best.
So what does Santa want for Christmas?
"Just the kids being happy is a big gift to me. That's all I want."
If you want to see Santa Claus for yourself, you still have a few opportunities. He will be at Santa's house inside the Sioux City hotel, December. 22 from 10a-2p
