Thursday evening, shortly before 10 p.m., officials say the driver was speeding Eastbound on West 4th St. when the car struck two other parked vehicles between Judd and Leonard Streets, causing the deadly explosion.
Neighbors and witnesses described the car moments later as a fiery scene. "The flames were probably 5 feet above the roof of the car. It was massive. I've never seen one go up like that. There was popping and squealing and little explosions," said an emotional witness Marisa Mead. "We heard a loud bang and about I'd say 5 minutes after that we heard another one and then all the sudden, we heard the first assuming car blow up and then when we came outside to look we saw the flames and all the black smoke," said a neighboring witness Liz Jacobson.
Authorities are investigating alcohol as a factor in their investigations.
