U.S. House Votes to Approve Farm Bill

Some good news tonight from Washington for farmers.

The House has voted to approve a scaled-down version of the farm bill.

House Republicans decided to drop the funding for the food stamp program from the bill, so the legislation that contained funding for farm programs would be approved.

The measure passed in a mostly party-line 216 to 208 vote, with 12 Republicans voting no and zero Democrats voting yes.

The vote now sets up a conference with the Senate, who passed a Farm Bill that does have food stamp funding in it.

Both Houses of Congress have to agree on the wording before the Bill can become law.
