USD Debuts Renovated Student Center

Students returning to campus at the University of South Dakota after Christmas break are coming home to a newly expanded student center.

USD celebrated a 31,000 square foot expansion to the Muenster University Center this afternoon.

The center was built in 2009 and has been a focal point for students to meet and gather.

Renovations to the space include different dining options for students: national brands such as Chick-fil-A, Qdoba, and Einstein Brothers Bagels.

One of the areas also includes a 16-foot video wall, which is made up of sixteen 60-inch televisions.

"Our attendance as a whole has gone up about a thousand students in just four years' time. So the student union and the student center of any campus is the focal point. And this is pretty much the living room of campus, so we wanted to be a draw to get more students in and we think this will accomplish that," said USD's Phil Carter.

Thursday (1-16) the center will play host to "Community Night."

Families and individuals are invited to come and enjoy the new facilities from 5 to 7PM.
