Work Begins on Children's Museum
SIOUX CITY, IA —
After nearly a decade of planning, work is underway on building a new Children's Museum of Siouxland.
Crews began tearing down one of the first structures on the site where the museum will sit: the old Hoak Motors on Pearl Street.
Museum supporters have raised nearly $4.5 million for the project.
They're hoping to raise another $900,000 by the end of the year.
"It's a really great feeling. All of our hard work kind of culminating into something that's visible and tangible for our community. We have a great group of volunteers that's been working on this project for the last 18 months. From fundraising to coordinating new building designs and working on the floor-plan, exhibits...all of the things that go into making a Children's Museum. And this is just kind of the first step in making it a reality," said Children's Museum Executive Director Kari Kellen.
There will be a groundbreaking and dedication ceremony when construction begins next spring.
