A Consul General from the Republic of Kosovo visited Western Iowa Tech Community College

A Consul General from the Republic of Kosovo visited Western Iowa Tech Community College

Xhavit Gashi met with prominent members of Western Iowa Tech Community College.

Bonds between Iowa and the Republic of Kosovo first formed when several hundred Iowa servicemen and women were stationed in the country over the last decade.

In 2013, then Governor Branstad, signed a sister state agreement between Iowa and Kosovo.

"We have lots of similarities, people are you know, great people. You know, same, in Kosovo and in Iowa. And when you have great people you can build everything up again," said Consul General Xhavit Gashi of the Republic of Kosovo

Along with the state partnership city leaders are working on a partnership between Sioux City and the Kosovo city of Gjilan.

"This could be the start of something big and we're very excited and very open to having something like that, that would help us both to grow, learn from each other and it just broadens, I mean just endless opportunities that would be available to each city," said Dan Moore

Also part of the visit was a tour of the campus, lunch with students, and the Consul General being interviewed by audio production students of Western Iowa Tech.
