African Elephant dies at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo
Omaha, NE —
(FOX 42 KPTM) Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo says an eight or nine year old African Elephant died Thursday morning.
Warren lived in a herd in the African Grasslands exhibit.
They say he was anesthetized for a procedure around 9:50 am Thursday morning. Crews were planning to make a mold of one of his tusks.
The zoo says it was cracked and they were going to sculpt a prosthetic covering to keep it from cracking any further.
Officials say 20 minutes into it Warren's breathing slowed down, then eventually stopped.
They say medics tried to revive him, but it did not work.
Officials don't know yet how he died, but plan to perform a necropsy.
