Cardinal Elementary students "Thank A Cop" with gifts of appreciation

A local elementary school invited members of Nebraska law enforcement to school today, to thank them.

Students at Cardinal Elementary presented members of South Sioux City Police, Dakota County Sheriff, Nebraska State Patrol and several other agencies, gifts they made to show their appreciation to what each department does on a daily basis.

"People around here, this community, they're nothing but supportive to us, so we don't face as many hurdles as other departments have in other communities but our community has just been so supportive it's just been, it feels really good," said South Sioux City Police Chief Ed Mahon.

This all started with one student's idea and rapidly grew to a few third grade classes.

Students also asked the members of law enforcement there several questions relating to their jobs in order to get a better understanding of what each person goes through during a shift in law enforcement.
