Colonel Bud Day honored with posthumous promotion
A local Medal of Honor winner and Vietnam War hero has received a posthumous promotion.
By a special act of Congress passed as part of last year's National Defense Authorization Act which took effect in March. Colonel George Bud Day was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.
The promotion was inserted into the bill by Senator John McCain who was Day's cellmate when both were prisoners of War in North Vietnam. Day died back in 2013 and is buried in Florida.
Sioux City's airport is named in his honor as is Morningside College's Institute for Civic Engagement.
The Chief of Staff of the US Air Force presented his wife with the posthumous promotion during a special concert last Friday in Virginia.
