A jury has started deciding the fate of a Sioux City man accused of trying to kill a Woodbury County Deputy.

Melvin Spencer is charged with opening fire on that deputy following a high speed chase in February.

Day 2 of the Melvin Spencer attempted murder trial began with testimony from the Woodbury County Sheriff's Deputy who exchanged gunshots with Spencer back in February.

Deputy Michael Lenz testified that Spencer led him on a high- speed chase along I- 29 and on rural roads between Port Neal and the Sioux Gateway Airport before they traded shots.

Both sides gave closing arguments this afternoon with prosecutor PJ Jennings telling jurors the evidence presented shows Spencer is guilty of attempted murder.

The jury began deliberations about 90 minutes ago and we're expecting a verdict at any moment.

We'll let you know what that verdict is as soon as it happens.

A portion of the dash cam video from that night was released by the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office.
