Jackson, Ne man dies after medical condition while driving
SIOUX CITY, Ia —
Sioux City Police have released the identity of the man who died suffering from a medical condition while driving.
Police say 72 year old Raymond Nelson of Jackson, Nebraska appears to have suffered a medical event prior to the crash on the 700 block of 36th Street Saturday afternoon.
Nelson was taken to UnityPoint Health St. Luke's where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities were dispatched to the 3300 block of Pierce Street for a possible hit and run.
A short time later, they received another call of a reckless driver in the same area and later received a call about a vehicle that struck a utility pole in the 700 block of 36th Street.
The driver of the Chevy truck appeared to have a medical event prior to striking the pole.
The driver was transported to St Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Based on the preliminary investigation authorities do not believe the death of the driver was a result of the crash.
The name of the driver is not being released at this time.
One man was taken to the hospital this afternoon after his vehicle crashed in to a utility pole in Sioux City.
Authorities say the elderly man hit multiple vehicles before hitting and knocking over the utility pole just after 2:00.
He was taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
The streets were closed for a few hours this afternoon while crews worked to repair the utility pole.
