Federal investigators release preliminary report in Lyon Co. helicopter crash
LYON COUNTY, IA —
Federal investigators have released a preliminary report on the crash of a helicopter in Lyon County earlier this month.
That Robinson R-44 helicopter was helping herd 300 loose cattle near Inwood, IA when the tail of the helicopter hit a powerline while turning.
That impact caused the helicopter's tail to come off and it to crash to the ground, where the pilot and a passenger were seriously injured.
The National Transportation Safety Board's preliminary report notes that the helicopter's main rotors were substantially damaged in the crash as well.
