Former Winnebago Tribal Council member enters plea deal in scheme to steal from casino
A former tribal council member for the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska is admitting guilt in a scheme to steal from the WinnaVegas Casino Resort.
The Lincoln Journal- Star reports that Lawrence Payer accepted a plea deal from Federal prosecutors, pleading guilty to a single charge of "misapplying funds belonging to an Indian gaming establishment."
Payer is one of nine former council members charged in 2015 with conspiracy to take more than $325,000 dollars from WinnaVegas.
A hearing on whether the court will accept or reject that plea has not yet been set.
