Grass fires along I-29 NB

UPDATE:

A grass fires caused problems for drivers on I- 29 northbound in Sioux City about 10:30 this morning.

Sioux City Fire Rescue crews spent the better part of an hour battling the fires between the Interstate and Business Highway 75 near the Floyd Monument.

The fire produced so much smoke it prompted a travel warning on the electronic signs hanging over the interstate.

Asst. Chief Brad Robinson of Sioux City Fire Rescue told us that "Usually when you have three separate fires like this it usually caused by train going by on the railroad tracks either a hot bearing sparking or spark the rest or on the engine wasn't operating right."

It took 14 firefighters until just after 11 to get those flames put out and some crews remained on scene to monitor for hot spots.
