JCPenney announces store closures

We now know the Yankton, SD JC Penney store, inside the Yankton Mall, will be the only JCPenney in Siouxland affected by the latest round of closings announced by the company.

A statement from J.C. Penney, Inc., Friday, laid out which 138 stores will be closing nationwide.

Here are the affected stores in Siouxland:

In Iowa:

Downtown Decorah, Decorah,

Crossroads Mall, Fort Dodge

Penn Central Mall, Oskaloosa

Quincy Place, Ottumwa

In Nebraska:

Fremont Mall, Fremont

Downtown McCook, McCook

Platte River Mall, North Platte

In South Dakota:

Northridge Plaza, Pierre SD

Watertown Mall, Watertown SD

Yankton Mall, Yankton

The company says approximately 5,000 positions across the country will be impacted by the store closures, most of which will happen in June.

JCPenney hopes to relocate employees affected.

Most of these stores will start the liquidation process April 17th.
