Lowe's Heroes builds sidewalk for local head start program

Employees from Sioux City's Lowe's store are helping make a local Head Start center safer for the students.

They've been installing a sidewalk between the class building and the playground at the Florence English Head Start Center.

It's part of the company's "Lowe's Heroes" program.

Today, workers poured concrete for the sidewalk, which will allow the kids to reach the playground without crossing a parking lot.

"This is huge for our program. Its' a big safety relief. Children walking through the playground obviously isn't ideal and we want to make sure their safety is always first at hand and now this sidewalk will allow them to get around the building and down to the playground without having to walk through the parking lot," said Christie Beatty.

Lowe's local store manager and a team member spearheaded the project, removing sod and setting up frames earlier this week ahead of this morning's cement pour.
