Man in custody after allegedly robbing Bancroft Bank

A tense situation tonight in the Northeast Nebraska community of Bancroft, Nebraska where police were involved with a standoff with a bank robber.

We've learned the man police believe is responsible for this robbery has been captured and was taken to a hospital.

The Chief Deputy of the Cuming County Sheriff's Office tells us that just before 5:30 pm Friday, that man walked into the First Bank of Bancroft and later left with an undetermined amount of cash.

He reportedly left the scene on an ATV and rode to a vacant farm building south of town. The deputy said he couldn't confirm that any shots were fired though a Nebraska State Trooper on the scene told us there were.

"Well we want to make everybody rest assured that we have the subject in custody and everybody should be safe at this point in time," said David Brown, Chief Deputy for the Cuming County Sheriff's Office. Brown said the man was injured after he fell off the ATV, trying to get out of the area.
