More than 40 firefighters called fight barn fire in Vermillion

Dozens of firefighters spent this afternoon fighting a large fire on a farm near Vermillion and their job was complicated by this afternoon's high winds.

That fire broke out around 12:30 P.M. this afternoon in the 31000 of Fairview Avenue.

One barn was destroyed while another was damaged.

Firefighters from Vermillion, Beresford, Gayville, Elk Point, Yankton and Newcastle were on the scene.

It took about 45 minutes to put out the flames.

"At this time nothing life threatening. No injuries reported to either owners of the property or firefighters at this time. We're not 100% sure on the cause of the fire at this time. Again we haven't had time to interview anybody that was here at the time that the fire started," said Vermillion Fire Chief Matt Callahan.

In all, more than 40 firefighters battled that fire this afternoon.
