Morningside Professor passes away in Minnesota

Dr. Mark Heistad passed away Monday night in Duluth, MN.

The Associate Professor of Mass Communication at Morningside College was well-known for his long beard, which he started growing after high school.

He finally let students cut his facial hair in November 2015, when he had to be treated for esophageal cancer.

Dr. Heistad worked closely with KMSC, the Morningside College radio station.

Dave Madsen, Chair of the Department of Mass Communication at Morningside, confirmed the news in a post to Facebook Tuesday.

The funeral for Dr. Heistad will take place April 29th at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN.

He was 59 years old.
