Sinkhole at 30th and Pierce Streets will take some time to fix
Sioux City, IA —
It's been nearly three months since a sinkhole closed an intersection on Sioux City's north side and now we're learning that intersection might not reopen until September.
The city council approved the specifications for a project to repair that sinkhole at 30th and Pierce Streets meaning the project will now go out for bid.
That means the earliest construction can begin will be late June or early July.
"It's unfortunate that that intersection has been closed for as long as it has. We're talking about a very, very, deep issue here, very deep problem of the repairs that need to be made and we want to do it right because we don't want to comeback in and disrupt that intersection again so it has to be done right the first time," said Sioux City Council member, Dan Moore.
That sinkhole opened up back in February swallowing a snow plow working to clear that street.
