Sioux City Fire Rescue looking to charge for on scene care
Sioux City, IA (Siouxland News) —
At Sioux City City Council meeting, Sioux City Fire Rescue will suggest upping the charges for on scene care.
Sioux City Fire Rescue will be taking over emergency services on January 1st.
The $186 to $327 charge is being proposed to the Sioux City City Council, this would mean people would no longer receive free treatment on scene.
Patients who receive basic life support will be charged $186 while patients receiving advance life support will be charged the $327.
Sioux City's Fire Chief, Tom Everett said, "Our idea or our thought process is we know the city took on a lot of additional costs with this service. There's a lot of support and the City Manager for providing the services but we want to make sure that the cost of the system is much as possible is bore on the users of the system."
If adopted, Sioux City's new rates for on scene would fall in line with the average of other communities in Iowa.
The proposed fee could generate an estimated $1.75 million.
