South Dakota Senator determined to prevent another Missouri River flooding

South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds is speaking up about preventing a repeat of the 2011 Missouri River flooding.

During a phone conference on Friday, April 20th with Siouxland News, Rounds said he still has concerns about the proper management and flooding due to higher snowpack levels on the upper Missouri River basin.

Last month, they sent a letter to the Corps of Engineers, requesting an in-person briefing, and so far they haven't heard back.

Sen. Rounds told us, "Bottom line is that we want to make darn sure that we do everything we can to avoid the risk of a repeat of something similiar to that man-made flood as I call it in 2011 when the Corps of Engineers did not quickly enough to the increase in snowpack."

Rounds says they're glad they've started to increase of releases from Gavin's Point Dam, but they're just going to keep watching the Corps of Engineers.
