Three Iowa Legislators shed light on court programs underfunded by state government

A few Iowa legislators were in Sioux City today to talk about innovative justice initiatives in Iowa.

Senate Democratic Leader Rob Hogg and Representatives Chris Hall and Tim Kacena toured various courts including the Veteran's Treatment Court to shine a light on how much these programs are being short-funded by Iowa's legislature.

"When you short-fund Iowa state agencies and departments past the point that they are actually able to function, you are also damaging the fabric of our society and it is going against the values that most Iowans will agree too, that we look out for one another, that we try to help and support those people that are experiencing hardship, especially when they are at their most vulnerable," said Representative Chris Hall.

The Mental Health Court, Juvenile Courts and Family Treatment Courts were also part of their tour.
