UPDATE: Former USD football players plead not guilty

UPDATE:

Both Danny Rambo Jr. and Dale Williamson Jr. appeared in Clay County Court this morning (December 7th, 2017).

The pair who have been accused of sexual misconduct both pleaded not guilty to their charges.

Williamson's attorney asked to withdraw from the case citing he is "too busy" and couldn't give the case proper attention.

Judge Gering denied that request after Williamson said he wanted him to stay his lawyer.

While the two had their hearing together this morning, Rambo's attorney asked that they be tried separately.

Judge Gering has not made an action on if the trial will be separate or together yet, but did set a tentative court date of April 9th.

Williamson Jr. plead not guilty to 2nd degree rape from an incident in March.

That court date has been set for April 30th.

PREVIOUS STORY: Tonight we are learning more information about the arrests of two USD football players.

Court documents say Danny Rambo Jr. and Dale Williamson Jr. came into the bedroom of their roommate at an off- campus house on the evening of October 22nd while he was having sex with the victim.

The two then attempted to join in the sex acts without the victim's consent.

The documents say during police interviews, Rambo admitted his role in the incident while the roommate confirms the pair were in the room without the victim's knowledge or consent.

USD Athletic Director Dave Herbster says in a statement tonight that, " South Dakota athletics is taking this accusation very seriously. The athletic department became aware on Wednesday, Oct. 25, and immediately notified the appropriate university officials, who in turn notified the Vermillion Police Department. We have been cooperating fully with VPD's investigation and will continue to do so. "We are steadfast in our support of the university's commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students."

Rambo is being held on $25,000 bond for his 2nd degree rape charge and Williamson on $20, 0000 for his attempted 2nd degree rape charge.

“This is a very troubling accusation, and University Police will assist the Vermillion investigation in any way possible,” said Abbott. “The university is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all of our students."
