UPDATE: Whiting man dies after Monona County accident
Sioux City, IA —
UPDATE: A 92-year-old Whiting man has died after an two vehicle accident in Monona County Tuesday.
An Iowa State Patrol report says that John Garred, 92, of Whiting, was traveling west bound on County Road E-24 when he was attempting to make a left turn and did not see a semi traveling east bound on E-24.
The semi driver slowed down and moved to the shoulder of the roadway, but was unable to avoid hitting Garred.
Police report states that Garred may have been blinded by the sun.
Garred was transported to Burgress Hospital, where he later died.
The semi driver, Duane Miller, 60 , of Onawa, was not injured.
A two vehicle accident in Monona County this afternoon has left one man in critical condition.
The Monona County Sheriff says the accident happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when a semi collided with a car that was turning at the intersection of 160th and Cork Avenue.
That's about one mile west of Whiting. Rescue crews had to use the jaws of life to extract the driver of the car who was taken by ambulance to Burgess Health Center in Onawa.
Mercy Air Care was later sent to airlift him to Sioux City. His current condition is unknown. The semi driver was not injured.
