WITCC Faculty and Board in dispute over contracts

Major changes could be coming to Western Iowa Tech as the school's board of directors is fighting with its faculty over their Master Contract.

The head of the faculty's union tells Siouxland News the Board wants to remove all aspects of the current contract, many which have been in place for decades and replace it with a handbook created solely by school administrators.

A handbook that would cover policies on leave and insurance.

That proposal was enabled by a bill passed earlier this year by the Iowa Legislature to change the state's collective bargaining law.

"Those are things that are excluded like insurance, transfers and evaluation and things like that that govern employee/employer relationship. But you shouldn't be doing things to people. You should be doing things with people."
