UPDATE: Dakota County Attorney files formal charges against Chen

UPDATE 9/12/2017: Dakota County Attorney, Kim Watson, has filed formal charges against BeiSheng Chen.

Chen has been formally charged with Murder in the First Degree, Domestic Assault in the First Degree and Use of A deadly Weapon during the Commission of a Felony.

Chen will appear in court on these charges on September 19th.

On September 6th, officers found Mei Huang on the ground outside the LEC building in South Sioux City with a gunshot wound.

Chen was standing near by and was immediately taken into custody.

He is currently in the Dakota County Jail on a $1.25 million bond.


THURSDAY EVENING UPDATE: New developments in the case of the South Sioux City man accused of murdering his wife yesterday.

41- year- old Beisheng Chen made his first court appearance this afternoon, where he was ordered held on $1.25 million dollars bond on charges of first degree murder, domestic assault and use of a firearm to commit a felony.

Chen also refused an offer of a public defender from the judge and was ordered to have no contact with his victim's family or their children.

He will officially be arraigned on Tuesday in Dakota County District Court.


THURSDAY MORNING UPDATE: Mei Huang was shot just after 8:00 AM outside South Sioux City Police headquarters.

Police say the 33-year-old from South Sioux City was shot in the head by a man later identified as her husband, 41-year-old Beisheng Chen.

Huang was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, where she died a few hours later.

Chen was arrested close by, because police heard the gunshots.

Chen is charged with First degree Murder, Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony, and First Degree Domestic Assault.

He's in the Dakota County Jail.

Later that afternoon police searched a home in South Sioux City, but we don't know if the search is connected to this investigation.


PREVIOUS INFORMATION (5:45 pm): South Sioux City Police are releasing more information tonight on the murder that happened outside the LEC building in South Sioux City .

Police have identified the woman as Mei Huang, 33 , of South Sioux City.

Her husband, Beisheng Chen, 41, of South Sioux City, has been charged with Murder in the First Degree, Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony, First Degree Domestic Assault.

Chen is currently in the Dakota County Jail awaiting arraignment.

The investigation was conducted by South Sioux City Police, Dakota County Sheriff’s Department, and the Nebraska State Patrol.



UPDATE (1:30 pm) : Police say that the woman shot in South Sioux City this morning has died due to her injuries.

No other information was released.


Previous Story:

A woman was shot in front of the Dakota County Law Enforcement Center in South Sioux City just after 8:00 AM Wednesday morning.

Authorities say a man has been taken into custody and the weapon recovered.

Police say they believe the woman was shot in the head after a possible domestic disturbance.

The woman was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Schools in the area where put on lock down until the scene was secure.
