Kingsley-Pierson advances to state semifinals

Kingsley-Pierson was back in the 1A State Tournament a year after losing in the first round. Could they get their first state victory in school history against Marquette Catholic?

The panthers did not have a good start, after allowing the game's first ten points Addison Hirschman finds Bri Jensen for the basket, it was 10-2.

Bri Jensen hit a long three as part of a 35-21 run by K-P to end this half.

The Panthers battled all the way back and late in the third quarter a Hirschmann three gave the Panthers their first lead of the game. She was three of five from downtown!

Hirscmann lead the panthers with 16 in the first half. 35-31 K-P lead at the break.

In the second half Hirschmann continued to put the team on her back, she had a team high of ten rebounds, adding to her team high 22 points. K-P would head to the fourth quarter up 47-44.

Madison Goodwin added 8 points in this game. Allison Bailey had 9.

In the fourth quarter Jensen, the hero from the team's regional final came alive scoring 9 of her 19 points. Including four straight free throws to close out this game.

Kingsley-Pierson is on to the state semifinals. They win it 65-61 for their first state tournament victory in program history!

They survive 38 points from Marquette Catholic's Marissa Schroeder and they'll play top ranked Springville in a rematch of last year's opening round game.

Addison Hirschman, Kingsley-Pierson's Junior Forward told us how she felt after the great game, "oh so good. We worked so hard for this and we're so excited. We had a different mindset this year coming down. We won so I think our mindset worked."

Kingsley-Pierson's coach, Nicole Goodwin said, "It was a taste. They got a taste of state. That's what fueled their offseason. That fueled our intensity in practice and that's what drove them to reach our goal again and strive to get down there again and we accomplished that. Our next goal was round one. Now we're in the semis and we set a new goal then."

Hirschman credited defense for the teams success, "defense, we just had to pick up our defense. That was our issue and that's something we've stressed the whole year. We wanted to start strong and we didn't there for the beginning but we came out of it so it was good."

Goodwin added, "getting past round one it was a good birthday present for me today. So we get a matchup. They're a phenomenal team. We watched them the first game and it's going to be a battle."
