Derek Krayenhagen is a multimedia journalist for KMEG 14 and Fox 44. He grew up an hour away from Sioux City in Ida Grove, IA. Derek graduated from Morningside College with his degree in Mass Communications in 2016.
During Derek’s senior year he took an internship with Siouxland News, where he first started to love the world of news, since that day he hasn’t looked back. He then took a position as a production assistant where he learned the ins and outs of the newsroom. Now he is a part of the on air team and is extremely excited for the opportunity.
Born in raised in Iowa, Viking’s football was always on Sundays at noon, so Derek is a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan. Another purple and gold team shares Derek’s heart but this one is over 1,700 miles away in California, that of course being the Lakers. Derek recalls watching Kobe Bryant and Lakers since he was little and falling in love with the team and the amazing past time that comes with such a historic organization.
One thing Derek enjoys is working at his local news organization giving his family and friends the opportunity to see his work. He says it’s not every day the job you want keeps you close to home so he is going to enjoy it while he can.
